Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll

66 /100

IGN 78/100

« A fun ball-rolling design with a nice stack of challenges and a hit-or-miss pile of mini-games. »

NintendoWorldReport 75/100

« Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll is a fun and enjoyable successor to decent Banana Blitz, despite its issues with the Wii Balance Board. Some games sound like a perfect fit for the Wii Balance Board and Step & Roll was one of them, but the game lacks the polish and precision its Wii Balance Board control scheme needs. »

GameZone 74/100

« Step & Roll is a “step” in the right direction since the game is embracing the other peripherals available for the Wii. There are plenty of gamers that have the Balance Board sitting around collecting dust and now Monkey Ball is an excuse to get it out. However, just take a deep breath and remember that the sensitivity and accuracy might be too much at times. »

Official Nintendo Magazine UK 72/100

« Step & Roll is a happy effort that proves more enjoyable when you ignore the Balance Board, in the single player mode at least. There's enough new stuff in here to keep long-time fans amused, with the multiplayer and mini-game modes being the standout features, as ever. A chimp off the old block. »

VideoGamer 70/100

« Super Monkey Ball: Step and Roll might be marketed as a game to play using the Wii Balance Board, but it's a much better game when played using standard Wii Remote controls. »

N-Europe 70/100

« While the game in some ways attempts to return to series roots, it changes yet again to accommodate an unwieldy new set of controls. The flawed result is not perfect, but playable. »

GamingXP 70/100

« All in all Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll is a typical Wii game for families without any highlights but quite entertaining gameplay. »

9Lives 68/100

« Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll is a fun game that will be appreciated by fans, but that doesn’t give much content for the casual gamer. You have to have tremendous patience to get through most levels, as they suffer from lousily handled controls. The multiplayer aspect does make up for it. Everything looks joyful and the soundtrack is pleasant. This doesn’t cancel out the lack of good controls and the measly content. »

« this game is pure ****. i spent one hour on a single level because the controls just straight up do not work at all. for the love of god do not play this game, just play smb 1, 2, and deluxe »

RealNova 6/10

« The difference in difficulty between the 6 main worlds and the extra seventh world is so exagerated it is laughable, we pass from challenging but still very doable even first try, to **** rage game difficulty, and I would have been fine with it if it wasn't that for 100% the game you need to do the whole seventh world within 4 lives, yeah that is borderline impossible, that made me lose interess into collecting the other things to achive 100%, also the game is weirdly short, you can finish it in barely a few hours and half of those hours are for world 7. »

Happyspelling 9/10

« You don't even need a balance board for this game. You can just play with a wii remote. I recommend you do that, the balance board is really hard to control. It's a fun and charming game that you should play if you like Super Monkey Ball. Also, it has one of the best video game soundtracks ever! Even if you don't want the game, you should listen to the music. »

Markus1639 10/10

« This game is easily the most underrated game in the Super Monkey Ball series. »

Psychie 8/10

« This game is my guilty pleasure of the series. It's rather limited and easy, but unlike 3D, I don't mind. Probably because it's not as much as 3D in any category. It also helps that Step and Roll was motion controlled, but didn't have a jump feature. Or maybe I'm just being nostalgia blind. »

MrTacoBob 7/10

« While this new gimmick sounds good but the execution is okay. The gameplay is fun but using the Wii Balance Board constantly is bad, just make a regular Super Monkey Ball game but add some original addition that doesn't effect the controls. »

GamecubeLover 9/10

« This game is almost as good as banana blitz but the game does lack a bit but overall I love playing this game cause it is almost like the gamecube games. »

TharosTheDragon 9/10

« It's a very fun and happy game with catchy music. Should put a smile on your face. One of the few games I've gotten to play with my mom. I figured the balance board might appeal to her. »
