Spider-Man: Battle for New York, développé par Torus Games et édité par Activision, est paru le 14 novembre 2006 sur Nintendo DS et Game Boy Advance. Ce jeu de plateforme permet aux joueurs d'incarner Spider-Man ou l'un de ses ennemis célèbres, le Green Goblin, et propose pour la première fois dans un opus portable de la licence de personnaliser l'expérience en choisissant quelles capacités améliorer, comme les manœuvres de toile de Spider-Man ou les attaques de feu du Green Goblin. L'accueil critique est mitigé, avec une note moyenne agrégée de 70. PGNx Media a salué un gameplay 2D amusant mêlé à une présentation 3D impressionnante tout en pointant un défaut dans l'absence de réelles avancées, tandis que WHAM! Gaming a estimé que le titre ne surpassait pas Ultimate Spider-Man comme référence sur DS mais s'en approchait. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic ont regretté une expérience proche d'un simple ajout de niveaux à Ultimate Spider-Man, avec des niveaux linéaires et des combats de boss répétitifs, quand d'autres ont au contraire trouvé l'un des side-scrollers 2D les plus plaisants, porté par la rivalité classique entre Spider-Man et le Green Goblin.

« Basically just a few more levels for Ultimate Spider-Man, it has the same slightly tedious to-ing and fro-ing within very linear levels, repetitive boss fights and an awkward combination of buttons and touch screen for controls. **** Dimensions is much better. »
