Sorti le 5 juin 2018, Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn est un beat 'em up à défilement horizontal développé par Saber Interactive et Big Deez Productions, édité par Wired Productions. Le titre est disponible sur PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch ainsi que sur supports mobiles Android et iOS, propulsé par le moteur Unity. Le jeu propose une expérience courte, la campagne principale se bouclant en environ trois heures, pour une complétion totale estimée à quatre heures et demie, le tout proposé au prix de 19,99 euros.
L'intrigue place le joueur dans la peau de Shaq Fei Hung, un orphelin chinois formé au kung-fu par un maître, qui doit affronter des célébrités révélées être des démons cherchant à asservir l'humanité. Shaquille O'Neal prête sa voix à son alter ego virtuel, surnommé "Big Diesel", et accompagne l'aventure d'un titre rap exclusif. Le périple traverse des décors variés — rues de Chine, camp en Amérique du Sud, Los Angeles, îles Fidji et Enfer — où le joueur utilise combos, armes de mêlée et à distance, ainsi que des transformations en "Big Diesel" ou "Shaqtus" pour venir à bout des hordes d'ennemis et de boss excentriques, le tout dans des environnements destructibles.
Côté accueil, le jeu reçoit des notes moyennes, avec un score Metacritic de 30 et une note agrégée de 36,81. La presse spécialisée reste mesurée : Trusted Reviews juge l'ensemble « plutôt moyen » mais considère cela comme un relatif succès par rapport à l'opus de 1994, tandis que PlayStation Universe le décrit comme un titre « amusant tant qu'il dure mais oubliable une fois terminé ». Du côté des joueurs, les avis soulignent souvent l'assumption de son propre ridicule, saluant des dialogues absurdes, une bande-son rap solide et des transformations hilarantes ; un avis Steam positif regrette toutefois l'absence de mode coopératif, qualifiée de « faute de goût » pour le genre.

« The only positive thing I have to say about this game is that the animated cutscenes, the music, and the humor are well done. The gameplay itself is unfun, unsatisfying, boring, repetitive, and frustrating. It's like they analyzed what made classic beat 'em ups fun and made the complete opposite. Also, there is a random bug that freezes everyone in their place and forces you to restart the checkpoint. They released a DLC that can only be bought by people with the physical disc. So, if you bought it digitally like me and you want to give them money in exchange for their DLC, "Tough luck. Buy the physical version or get lost, buddy". No, sorry. Awful job. »

« Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is not only a bad game, but a clear reminder that not every game needs a sequel. We didn’t need a new Bubsy and we certainly don’t need a new Shaq Fu. The combat is constantly draining, the humour is poorly delivered and occasionally insulting to your intelligence, and the six stages do nothing to incite any kind of replay ability whatsoever. »
« Shaq Fu is an average game. Average Beat-Em Up. Average Story. The gameplay itself isn't bad, it does change throughout the game and doesn't get stale. , I did enjoy the graphics and I did find the level design to be unique from stage to stage and liked to variety. and the jokes actually made me laugh out loud a few times. Hearing Shaq voice Shaq was a plus too. I enjoyed my time with this game and do not regret playing it! »
« Overall Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn is a well constructed beat 'em up that misses the mark with it's jokes and would massively benefit from a multiplayer mode. That being said it feels great to smash through evil henchmen and transform into a human-cactus hybrid. »
