Palinurus, un visual novel développé par Watercress Studios et publié le 9 décembre 2016 sur PC (Microsoft Windows) à l'aide du moteur Ren'Py, met en scène un voyageur à la dérive embarquant à bord d'une navette spatiale à destination d'Alpha Centauri, pilotée par une intelligence artificielle nommée Budapest conçue pour servir l'humanité. Lorsqu'un désastre frappe le vaisseau, les deux protagonistes sont propulsés à travers un espace inexploré, ne pouvant compter que l'un sur l'autre dans leur cockpit à la dérive. À l'origine créé en deux semaines pour le NaNoRenO Visual Novel Jam de 2015, le titre a ensuite bénéficié d'une Anniversary Edition proposant de nouveaux sprites, fonds, musiques et une interface remaniée. La presse et les joueurs ont accordé au jeu une note moyenne agrégée de 70,00. Sur Metacritic, un joueur a jugé l'expérience peu recommandable avec une note globale de 6/10, évoquant une attente passive face à la lecture, tandis qu'un autre a souligné la valeur littéraire de ce court roman cinétique, le comparant à une nouvelle imprimée méritant d'être lue.

« Palinurus is a short kinetic novel made for the nanoreno 2015 vn jam. It has literary value to it and would be well worth reading as a printed short story. It reminds me of a radioplay written in 1962 by M.L.Kaschnitz(1). The main character, Budapest, is endearing on all levels of her personality; CG and artwork are simple but well drawn and incredibly cute. There's a (kind of) open ending that will make most readers ponder on the topics of Palinurus. It certainly did for me. 10/10 Palinurus simply is a must read! »
