Nekopara Extra, développé par NEKO WORKs et édité par Sekai Project, CFK Co., Ltd. et NEKO WORKs, est sorti le 27 juillet 2018 sur PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch et OOParts. Ce visual novel indépendant, réalisé avec le moteur KiriKiri, constitue un épisode supplémentaire de la série Nekopara issu d'un objectif de financement participatif lié à l'OVA. L'aventure se concentre sur l'arrivée des chatons Chocola et Vanilla au foyer Minaduki, environ six mois avant l'ouverture de la pâtisserie La Soleil, alors qu'ils sont encore réservés et hésitants face aux autres chattes de la famille avant de s'attacher progressivement à Kashou, de l'appeler « maître », de vivre leur premier Noël et de partager une promesse avec lui. Le titre propose une histoire principale d'environ une heure et une expérience complétiste d'environ deux heures, au prix de 4,99 euros, avec une note agrégée de 68,49. Certains joueurs sur Metacritic et Steam décrivent ce prologue comme court mais mignon, mettant en scène des chatons réservés et leur première fête de Noël, tout en précisant qu'il s'agit d'une version « tout public ».

« This game serves as a prologue to this series. Minaduki family have just adopted two kittens, Chocola and Vanilla. However they are very reserved and shy. With love and support received from Kashou and his little sister Shigure, Chocola and Vanilla begin to open up more thus getting along with their new sisters. This game doesn't solely focus on Chocola and Vanilla. Other nekos get highlighted too. Coconut is another new comer in the Minaduki family. She's often watched over by Azuki who is eldest of the sisters. And she truly does stand for that title. Cinnamon and Maple don't get as much attention however, but Volume 3 does fix that problem later on. There's loads of comedy and cuteness, but also tender moments. Fan service is not distracting as they service a purpose ex. weighing and measurements. It's slightly longer than Volume 0 and add slightly into the character lore especially with Chocola and Vanilla. It's sweet, innocent and tugs at your "aaww" strings. »
