Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail!
Leisure Suit Larry: Love for Sail!
Description (IGDB)
Love for Sail! was the first Larry game since the third to pick up immediately where its predecessor left off; typically, it features Larry getting dumped by the woman who represented the ultimate goal of Larry 6, Shamara. The formula was much the same as the previous games: the "twist" was that Larry was a passenger on a cruise ship populated by parodies of famous people. Among the other cruise guests were "Drew Baringmore" (Drew Barrymore), "Dewmi Moore" (Demi Moore), "Victorian Principles" (Victoria Principal), "Jamie Lee Coitus" (Jamie Lee Curtis), "Nailmi" and "Wydoncha Jugg" (Naomi and Wynonna Judd) and "Annette Boning" (Annette Bening). Various other pop icons were parodied in the background, such as the Archie Comics gang playing nude volleyball, various incarnations of James Bond in the ship's casino (itself an homage to Peter Sellers's famous Casino Royale parody), a Sierra staffer dressed as Sailor Moon, and porn icon Ron Jeremy walking around naked. Most of the male supporting cast (Peter the Purser, Johnson the bartender, Dick the guardrobe attendant, Wang the galley server, Bob Bitt the artist) are named after popular euphemisms for the male reproductive organ or are in some way related to it (Bob Bitt, for instance, is named after John Wayne Bobbitt; the character also shares the same first name and bears a passing resemblance to fellow artist Bob Ross).
Histoire (IGDB)
The plot revolves around Larry's attempt at winning a weekly contest held on the ship by Captain Thygh, a gorgeous blonde. The contest involves a series of other games varying from legitimate sports competitions like bowling to naughtier things like a machine created to test one's sexual prowess. Each passenger is given a score card with a selection of the various competitions to compete in, and the passenger with the highest cumulative score at the end of the week wins. The prize is an additional free week on the cruise spent sharing the Captain's cabin (and, presumably, her bed.) The player must come up with a variety of ways to cheat in each of Larry's assigned competitions so that he can get the highest score and win the contest. Among Larry's chosen competitions are a cooking contest, a "best dressed" contest, a game of horseshoes, bowling, the sexual prowess contest and others. At times Larry wins these contests not by cheating but only by an unexpected twist of fate triggered by his (often unintentional) actions. For instance, Larry's encounter with fashion designer Jamie Lee Coitus causes his Leisure Suit to become the height of fashion; as such he wins the best dressed competition. Similar to Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work, it is impossible for the game to be placed in an "unwinnable" state, by a bad decision.

« The first and so far only game in the series I played. The game series are point and click adventures claimed to be for adults. To clarify: The games follow the “leisure suit” wearing “Larry” Laffer who is approx in his forties, bald and in general the opposite of the stereotypes of attractive men on his quest to seduce attractive women. It focus is on humor, weasel words, bawdy situations and parody. I think it was also made to trigger prude people which is always equal to free advertising (Those people and politicians always fail to recognize that they are huge promoters and advertisers with their protests;-). The game is however tame in a teasing way and plays often with this. I think they focused to tease censors or authorities with this giving them only things that are allowed to annoy them. Lets go back to the game: After getting ultimately dumped Larry wants to recover and ends on holiday on a cruise ship. However there is the gorgeous female captain Thygh who holds a competition for the passengers. Who ever wins gets an additional week on the ship in her cabin (Yes this is the kind of humor of the game). The contest is as bawdy and obvious as it seems. Larry has to use his wits to prove his prowess. Furthermore there are also lots of other beautiful woman on the ship which are parodies of famous people. Also there are some Easter eggs for you to find. You get what you expect and if you like this kind of humor you will be entertained. The programmers put a lot of effort in it to fulfill the expectations. Gameplay wise it is solid point and click adventure. Collect and use item at the right place and solve riddles. Mostly these are fair and logical. Be warned some need dark humor or bad experiences to make sense like what the toilet paper is used for;-). The humor is integrated here very well so I was always entertained. I praise the art style as they have gone for a special look that fits. I think I have said all what you need to know without spoilers. Overall this was a humorous and enjoyable experience. If you enjoy this kind of humor or hilariousness it is worth playing without doubt. If you don't enjoy this kind of humor I would recommend to stay away from it as it will be just annoying. »
« So, of course, the graphics was a huge improvement. The humor is there - it is a certain style which, i think, fits Larry perfectly :) basically, it's an adventure (or Quest, as we old folk sometimes call it) where u try to score with chi ks by solving riddles, conversing, and making strings from paper towel and tooth floss :) very sweet, frustrating, and humorous game full of easter eggs! »
« As usual this game is very funny. As many other old adventure games the duration is short, but to be honest I wouldnt like to invest more hours in this game to get to know this classic one. My recommendation is to play it with a walkthrough, unless you like trial&error, I dont. Anyway I played 1+3+6+7 and understand, why people love this classic series: Humour is on the same "level" as in Al bundy :) »
« Ok, I got this on sale on GOG after everybody raved about it being one of their favorites. I probably would've enjoyed this 20 yrs ago (I had friends that liked the Larry series), but imho it's just not worth the time commitment unless you're into these type of games. It had moments that were fun, but I quit about half way through due to lack of interest. Production qualities are good, both voice acting and animation. Puzzles are kindof odd sometimes, but mostly reasonable up to where I quit - but walk-throughs will be required in places as is standard for these types of games. Mostly the humor and getting the girl that's the motivation for playing. I guess it works for what it is, but like I said above, unless you're really in the mood for something like this - don't worry that you're missing anything. I gave it a 4 because despite some laughs, it still seemed like below average entertainment compared to other games to me.. »
« I registered just to write this review. I played this many years ago in Polish localized version. This game get great voice actors - Jerzy Stuhr as Larry, Jacek Czyz as Narrator(the best!) and Katarzyna Figura as Captain. Game is very funny. Unfortunately i don't think this game is any more available in Polish. »
« The last of the "traditional" Larry games. Not much about this game I didn't like. Great humor. Great animation and everything you could hope for in a Larry game. Loved the narrator. Loved the insane amount of Easter Eggs there were. BEST. EASTER EGGS. EVER! Thank god Scratch-n-Sniff was never a reality. Although that would have been amusing. Overall: While the Larry games can only be expected to be up to a certain standard, this game does the series proud. »
