Gartic Phone is a free online multiplayer party game based on the pen-and-paper game Telephone Pictionary. Players take turns writing prompts and drawing pictures in alternating rounds, with each participant only able to see the previous player's contribution. The humor comes from how messages become distorted as they pass through the chain of drawings and descriptions. The game offers various modes including Normal, Animation, and Crowd, and supports play through web browsers on PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

Telephone, or Chinese whispers, is an internationally popular children's game in which messages are whispered from person to person and then the original and final messages are compared. This sequential modification of information is called transmission chaining in the context of cultural evolution research, and is primarily used to identify the type of information that is more easily passed on from one person to another.
