Sorti le 10 août 2004 sur PC (Microsoft Windows) et Xbox, Chessmaster 10th Edition est un jeu d'échecs développé par Ubisoft Bucharest et édité par Ubisoft Entertainment ainsi qu'Akella. Classé dans les genres jeu de cartes et de société et quiz/trivia, cet opus marque une étape technique pour la série en introduisant pour la première fois un composant en ligne fonctionnel. Sur PC, il inaugure également les ensembles d'échecs animés et une interface personnalisable, le tout propulsé par le moteur « The King ».
Côté accueil, le titre obtient une note moyenne de 81 sur Metacritic et un score agrégé de 84,80. La presse spécialisée a salué l'exhaustivité du produit ; GamerFeed le qualifie ainsi de « probablement aussi complet qu'un jeu d'échecs peut l'être », notant une amélioration notable du système de menus par rapport aux épisodes précédents. Cependant, GameZone pointe une exigence matérielle élevée, susceptible de frustrer les utilisateurs d'ordinateurs portables en raison d'une utilisation processeur constante et de problèmes de chauffe. Du côté des joueurs, un avis Metacritic souligne le plaisir procuré pour un joueur compétitif, tout en relativisant l'intérêt actuel de ses modules en ligne et d'apprentissage face aux alternatives modernes.

« Probably as comprehensive as a chess game can possibly get. The only downside is that even though the menu system is much easier than some of the previous Chessmaster games, it still requires some getting used to. »

« As a competitive chess player, had a lot of fun with it. In modern days, there are surely better possibilities for online play and learning courses, but the computer personalities have their own unique styles and the additional content is wide and entertaining. »
