Description (IGDB)

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a survival horror video game by Frictional Games. The game features a protagonist named Daniel exploring a dark and foreboding castle, while trying to maintain his sanity by avoiding monsters and other terrifying obstructions. The game was critically well received.

Histoire (IGDB)

The game, set in 1839, casts the player in the role of Daniel, a young man from London, who awakens in the dark halls of Prussian Brennenburg Castle with little to no memory about himself or his past. All he can remember is his name, that he lives in Mayfair and that something is hunting him. Shortly after waking, Daniel finds a note written by himself that explains how he purposely made himself forget his past, because he couldn't handle losing his innocence, so he wanted to forget it all. The note urges Daniel to descend into the castle's Inner Sanctum and murder a man named Alexander , the baron of the castle. The note gives a final warning that a "living nightmare" is chasing him, and Daniel must escape it for as long as he can because there is no way to fight back.

The Amnesia Grunt Hoodie is here!

It took us over 15 years, but we’ve finally done it - the official Grunt Hoodie is here at last. Better late than never 🌹 And honestly… has any character ever deserved their own merch more? Don’t think so, no.Slip the hoodie on and you’re wrapped in the Grunt’s soft, crimson maw, with those unmistakably bulging eyes perched proudly on your head.In all seriousness, our goal was to create something that honors the classic game and the beloved character, while still being a piece you’d actually want to wear out in the world. We hope we struck the right balance. Not feeling the hoodie? No worries. We’ve also put together a t-shirt featuring Agrippa’s iconic silhouette, plus a sleek black baseball cap.Link to Hoodie

Avis des critiques et joueurs

Critiques de la Presse (Metacritic)

GamerNode 100/100

« Reminds us how interactivity, perspective, and player disempowerment can be highly engaging, and that a slow creep of fear with abrupt spikes of terror is ultimately the essence of the horror experience. »

GameShark 100/100

« In any case, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is an unforgettable survival/horror experience, one that should not be missed. »

GameCritics 100/100

« It was without a doubt one of the most difficult, draining, and stressful gaming experiences I have ever had, but it's also an absolute masterpiece. »

BigPond GameArena 95/100

« The sense of dread washing over you as you crouch in a corner in almost total darkness with your vision swimming, heart pounding and breath comes in short gasps as a humanoid creature with flayed skin instead of a jaw stands just metres away from you is more intense than any other video game has managed and if you even marginally enjoy the horror genre you owe it to yourself to pick it up. »

Game Informer 93/100

« If Resident Evil is Aliens, Amnesia is Alien. Frictional Games has created something wholly unlike the traditional horror game. Amnesia shows us by example that gaming has entirely new realms to explore. The price of admission is only $20 through your digital retailer of choice. Do the right thing. »

Computer Games Online RO 93/100

« Frictional made an interactive adventure that always pushes you to descend deeper and deeper towards the heart of evil, balancing the exploration of your own mind towards the point of maximum dementia with the exploration of a castle perhaps older than we are initially led to believe... »

Gamers' Temple 92/100

« Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the Exorcist of horror games, it will scare you and make you not real thrilled to go to sleep. »

Adventure Gamers 90/100

« If you're the kind of person who enjoys the rush of simulated terror, follow the developer's advice: wait until sundown, put on some headphones, and start up Amnesia: The Dark Descent »

Avis des Joueurs (Metacritic)

Gharren 10/10

« While I do have a mild preference towards the Penumbra series, Amnesia: TDD still single-handedly revived one of my favorite genres, and did it so expertly that it rightfully deserves a spot in the video game hall of fame. »

deejayrana 5/10

Jack_P 10/10

« One of the best horror experiences out there. A lot of it boils down to the incredible story and atmosphere. While the game’s AI’s might sometimes not feel that intelligent and pretty dated everything else makes up for it. Masterpiece. »

koko12 7/10

PrairieDogGamer 10/10

« This game vibes so hard…15 years after its release and it’s still scary!!!!! »

Lunzy 7/10

« A game that makes you clench your cheeks - Amnesia: The Dark Descent is kind of like that night when you wake up at 3 AM to get a glass of water... except the water’s in the basement, the lights are off, and there’s something breathing behind you. No cheap jumpscares here: the game prefers to leave you alone with your anxieties, whispering in your ear that you’ll regret it... and letting you open the door **** gameplay doesn’t try to impress with complexity: no weapons, no fighting, just you, your legs to run, and your mind slowly melting. It’s a bit stiff, sure, and you can tell some mechanics have aged. But oddly enough, this minimalism works. It puts you exactly where it wants you: vulnerable, and a little (okay, a lot) lost... c_cVisually, it’s far from a grand spectacle, but it’s perfectly balanced: the walls sweat, the candles flicker, and every hallway feels like a trap waiting to snap shut. The real masterstroke, though, is the sound. Every creak, every distant breath, every silence weighs a ton. This game should definitely come with a warning for people living alone in poorly soundproofed apartments (not me **** for the story, the game unveils its plot like a puzzle (a bit gross), between disturbing journal entries and foggy memories. You’re not handed anything on a silver platter: you have to search, piece things together, and sometimes get lost. If you love stories where memory is a slow poison, this one’s for **** the scare-o-meter, it’s a big fish. At times, it’s pure terror, nerves on edge, your heart beating out of sync. But there are also some slower moments where the tension dulls, and you almost get used to the horror… until a sound reminds you that no, you are not safe. Never.Technically, it does what it can. The engine’s showing its age, the animations are a bit stiff at times, but we forgive it: it has the excuse of a tortured old soul. It’s not a visual delight, but that’s not the goal. As for replayability… let’s just say it’s an intense experience. Sufficient. It’s a punch in the face you take once, and don’t necessarily want to take again right away. Unless you’re a bit **** summary, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a controlled descent into darkness: impactful, imperfect, but still capable of sending chills down the spine of anyone brave enough to dive in. It proves that the worst monster isn’t the one chasing you… it’s the one your brain invents when everything’s silent. »

BumpkinSTABBY 7/10

« alzheimer's simulator is a horror game where the monsters are not actually scary like wtf. level design is great though. and alexander is probably one of the best voices of all time. »
